Richard Price
Overview
Richard has a background in general commercial litigation, including contract and licensing disputes, becoming regarded as one of the UK’s leading patent and trade mark litigation lawyers.
Working as a neutral in ADR , he brings over 50 years’ experience as a solicitor in commercial litigation, leading teams in landmark cases and heading market-leading IP litigation practices, and spear-heading the Taylor Wessing merger in 2002. He has extensive experience in many jurisdictions including the USA, Hong Kong and Western and Central Europe, as well as the UK. His practice there covered all aspects of IP law at all levels up to and including the UK House of Lords and Supreme Court, and the Privy Council, leading the winning teams in all four cases there. Most recently, as head of IP Arbitration and Mediation at CMS London, he focussed on the resolution of disputes in multi-jurisdictional contract , patent, trade mark, passing off and copyright cases across a wide range of sectors set out below.
Richard is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and accepts retainers as an international arbitrator and mediator. As well as being a member of ArbDB Chambers, he is on the panels of WIPO in Geneva and JAMS in London, New York and San Francisco.
Alternative Dispute Resolution
Richard has conducted a number of international arbitrations, as a panel member and as sole arbitrator. The most recent ones have been between US and Russian parties. He has also conducted a number of mediations in relation to contract, patent , trade mark and copyright disputes. Qualifications and professional activities
Solicitor, England and Wales – admitted in 1970.
Member, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; trained as an arbitrator with the CIArb, WIPO and JAMS; and as a mediator with WIPO and with JAMS, San Francisco.
Has written articles, papers and book chapters on IP litigation and dispute resolution over many years and spoken publicly many times in seminars and conferences.
From 1990 until 2016 was a tutor on the University of Bristol post-graduate IP Diploma course, subsequently run by the University of Oxford.
