In conjunction with Dubai Arbitration Week 2025, ArbDB Chambers and Stephenson Harwood are holding a panel discussion on ‘Maritime Arbitration and Mediation in the Middle East.’ The event will take place on Monday 10 November on the opening day of Dubai Arbitration Week 2025.
The session will feature leading figures from the arbitration and maritime sectors, including Michael Cover and Marieke Witkamp (ArbDB Chambers), Rania Tadros (Stephenson Harwood Middle East LLP), Enam Hussain (West of England P&I Club) and Robert Stephen (Dubai International Arbitration Centre).
DETAILS OF THE SESSION
The panel will explore the maritime arbitration and mediation landscape in the Middle East, including:
Various types of maritime disputes and common features and pitfalls
Frequently chosen arbitration rules and procedures in the region, including DIAC, LMAA and SIAC/SCMA
The role of mediation in maritime disputes and the need to be familiar with a wide range of dispute resolution (and avoidance) mechanisms
The need for independence and impartiality on the part of third-party neutrals
The discussion will explore these issues from multiple perspectives, including those of third-party neutrals, legal counsel, arbitration institutions such as DIAC, and clients.
