Dr. Johanne Cox, Arbitrator

 

Dr. Johanne Cox has practiced international arbitration for over 20 years and now sits as an independent arbitrator. She is a solicitor advocate in England and Wales with higher rights of audience and a solicitor (non-practicing) in the Republic of Ireland. Johanne is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, an Accredited Mediator, and a Member of the Dispute Resolution Committee of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).


Johanne arbitrates both common and civil law disputes. She was a Partner and Head of International Arbitration at leading law firms in London, United Kingdom, and Cairo, Egypt, and spent 10 years in the Middle East and North Africa (Egypt, the UAE and Qatar) between 2010 and 2020.


In addition to her experience in commercial arbitration, Johanne has substantial expertise in investment treaty arbitration and has acted as counsel representing both foreign investors and states in ICSID arbitrations. Her book, Expropriation in Investment Treaty Arbitration (2019), Oxford University Press, is a global publication.
